NBA President-elect visits First Lady, promises support for vulnerable people

The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, says women can break barriers and reach their goals by supporting each other. She made this statement when she met the President-Elect of the Nigerian Bar Association, Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, in her office.

Mrs Tinubu highlighted that this victory sends a strong message to women that they can achieve a lot through hard work and teamwork. "You should set the bar and make room for other women coming behind you. This victory means a lot for women in general," she said.

She also pointed out that women are making significant strides in the judiciary. "The Chief Judge is a woman, the President of the Court of Appeal is a woman, and now you are the President-elect of the NBA. Women are achieving a lot."

The First Lady expressed her happiness about the visit, saying, "This is a visit that would be remembered by my office for a long time to come. I can only pray for you and wish you a successful tenure."

Mrs Tinubu praised Foluke Dada-Lawanson, who was the other female candidate for the NBA President position but withdrew to support the president-elect. She called this act a sign of true sportsmanship.

Before this, the President-elect of the NBA praised Mrs Tinubu for her work through the Renewed Hope Initiative. She mentioned how the First Lady is positively impacting the lives of vulnerable people in society. "Your job with the RHI, in addition to being the First Lady, looks like a full-time job. You have set an example for others to emulate. We thank you for all that you have been doing. These are so much."

The President-elect promised the First Lady that the NBA is ready to work with her and the RHI to offer free legal services where needed. Mrs Badejo-Okusanya explained that her visit aimed to share the joy of her achievement with the First Lady.

Her election on July 19 as the 33rd president of the Nigerian Bar Association is seen as a major milestone and a significant win for women. She is the first woman directly elected and the second female president in the history of the association.
