New Managing Director Appointed at Champion Breweries

Champion Breweries Plc has named Malolan Sampath as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. His appointment starts on 1 September.

The company shared this news in a regulatory filing, which was signed by its chairman, Imo-Abasi Jacob, on Tuesday.

This change follows the resignation of Inalegwu Adoga from the same position.

“The Board has approved the appointment of Mr. Malolan Sampath as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer with effect from 1 September 2026,” the statement said.

The board is confident that Mr Sampath’s skills in manufacturing, commercial execution, and business change will help the company meet its goals.

Transition Period

To ensure a smooth transition until Mr Sampath officially starts in September, the board has appointed Rasheed Adebiyi, the Executive Director of Finance, to act as Managing Director.

“The board remains committed to the highest standards of corporate governance and to delivering a smooth leadership transition and sustainable value to shareholders and other stakeholders,” Champion Breweries stated.

Mr Sampath brings over 26 years of international leadership experience in the beverage, FMCG, manufacturing, and agro-industrial sectors. He has built and led businesses worth up to US$500 million.

His background in brewing includes being the Managing Director of Unique Beverages in Angola and working as Sales & Marketing Director for a PepsiCo bottling franchise. He also has earlier experience in the brewing sector.

Recently, he served as Managing Director (NPK Joint Venture) and Chief Marketing Officer at Indorama Eleme Fertilizers in Nigeria. Before that, he was the Chief Executive Officer of Global Industries Limited, a joint venture with Wilmar International in Zambia.

Mr Sampath holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Management (MBA) from the Symbiosis Centre for Management & HRD in Pune and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Chennai.
