Residents in the US who want Nigerian visas must now apply directly at the Embassy of Nigeria in Washington, DC, or the Consulates in New York and Atlanta. This change comes after the suspension of services by Online Integrated Solutions (OIS Services).
OIS operates Nigeria’s Visa Application Centres but has been suspended from offering this service. On Thursday, the National Immigration Service (NIS) announced that this suspension is effective from July 2026.
“Effective from July, 2026, the service of Online Integrated Solution (OIS SERVICES), the operator of Nigeria’s Visa Application Centres in the United States of America, has been suspended until further notice,” the statement says.
The NIS did not explain why OIS Services was suspended or when they might review this decision. The new policy comes after the US placed a partial visa ban on Nigeria and several other African countries. PREMIUM TIMES reported that this ban affects many visa types, including B‑1, B‑2, B‑1/B‑2, F, M, and J visas.
The US also requires applicants from African countries to post a bond of up to $15,000 before applying for other visa types. In its statement, the NIS said that the suspension only affects visa applications submitted through OIS Services and does not change Nigeria’s electronic visa (e-Visa) system.
Travelers wanting e-Visas can still apply through the official e-Visa portal. The NIS mentioned it has made plans to ensure that visa applications can still be submitted, processed, and issued despite the suspension of the visa application centre operator.
“The Service further clarifies that this notice applies only to Visa application submissions at the Embassy and does not affect the e-Visa System. Applicants can continue to apply via the e-Visa portal,” the statement added.
The public is encouraged to watch for updates on visa application procedures from the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigerian Missions in the United States. The NIS also advised applicants to keep an eye on official communication channels.
The agency emphasized that it is “committed to providing efficient Service Delivery.”
