The Kano State Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Senator Mas’ud Doguwa, has said the party is open to joining forces with other political parties as the 2027 general elections approach, both at the state and national levels.
Doguwa shared this in an exclusive chat with The PUNCH on Wednesday. He mentioned that the NNPP is ready to collaborate with like-minded political parties to achieve its electoral goals.
He added that the party is focused on building its structure and reaching more people as the elections get closer. He noted that forming alliances could be necessary for the good of the party and its supporters.
According to Doguwa, the NNPP will consider working with other parties if it helps advance its goals in Kano State and beyond.
"We are open to alignment with other political parties ahead of the 2027 elections, both at the state and national levels. Politics is about interest, consultation and building consensus, so we are ready to work with others where necessary," Doguwa said.
The state chairman also rejected claims from a faction led by a rival group within the party. He said this faction does not have legitimacy and accused its leader, Abia, of working for the All Progressives Congress.
He claimed that this faction was trying to cause confusion within the NNPP and weaken the party’s structure in Kano State.
"That faction is not part of us. As far as we are concerned, they do not represent the NNPP. We know what they are doing and who they are working for," he said.
Doguwa also alleged that Abia is acting in the interest of the APC instead of the NNPP. He insisted that the party’s recognized leadership in Kano is strong and fully in control of its activities.
"He is working for the APC. That is the truth. We know those behind the moves and we are not distracted by them," he added.
The NNPP chairman expressed confidence in the party’s chances for the 2027 elections. He said the NNPP remains an important political force in Kano, even with some recent defections and changes in alliances.
He mentioned that the party will keep talking with stakeholders and supporters to reposition itself for future elections.
