NNPP Submits Candidates for 2027 Elections to INEC

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has sent details of its 2027 presidential placeholder candidate and 355 candidates for the National Assembly to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal. This happened despite tight deadlines.

The party’s National Chairman, Agbo Major, shared this news at a press conference on Tuesday in Abuja.

Mr Major called this achievement historic, especially given the time limits caused by INEC's delayed response to court orders. These orders recognized the party's true leadership, which is led by its founder, Boniface Aniebonam.

He also confirmed that INEC has fully restored the original NNPP identity and logo, which features a basket of fruits on the Nigerian map, on its candidate nomination portal.

“In spite of the initial delays, our situation room successfully uploaded a total of 355 National Assembly candidates, including placeholders across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

“We have also completed the upload of our presidential candidate as a placeholder, in line with legal and electoral guidelines,” Mr Major said.

He mentioned that the process for uploading candidates for governorship and State Houses of Assembly has started and will finish by August 8. This is before the deadline for candidate substitution.

“These achievements are not just administrative exercises.

“They show that we are strengthening our structures, growing our membership, and preparing to provide good leadership for Nigeria,” he said.

Mr Major, however, criticized INEC for not following court orders on time. He said this delay caused problems for the party’s preparations.

He revealed that the party’s legal team has been told to approach the Federal High Court to seek N10 billion in damages from INEC for not complying with court orders quickly.

“The FCT High Court told INEC to update our leadership status within 72 hours and file an affidavit of compliance within 14 days. The failure to comply on time caused serious issues for our 2027 timetable,” he said.

He clarified that the lawsuit is not aimed at INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, or any individuals. It is meant to discourage government bodies from delaying the following of court orders.

Mr Major encouraged party members, women, youths, and groups abroad to stay united. He urged them to take part in the ongoing membership registration to strengthen the party at all electoral wards across the country.

“The NNPP stands for justice, equity, inclusiveness, accountability, and good governance.

“We remain committed to policies that will improve the lives of the people, create jobs for our youths, empower women, promote national unity, and ensure sustainable economic growth,” Mr Major said.
