A former Inspector General of Police and Peoples Democratic Party candidate for Jigawa Southwest, Sulaiman Abba, says no one can push him out of the race.
Abba spoke on Wednesday in Dutse while meeting with journalists to kick off his campaign for the presidential and National Assembly elections.
He said, "With the start of the 2027 election season today, it is important to warn the opposition against rigging."
The former police chief said that as the Inspector General of Police during the 2015 elections, he helped strengthen democracy by ensuring free and fair polls.
He warned that any attempt to deny him victory in 2027 would be strongly resisted by the people of Jigawa Central. The former IGP stressed that the PDP will not be intimidated or pushed out in the upcoming elections.
He said, "My 31 years of experience in law enforcement have shown me all kinds of election rigging tricks; so no one can rig me out. Any effort to rig us out will fail. We will not allow it. The days of writing fake results are over in Jigawa Central and across the state."
The senatorial candidate promised to run his campaign respectfully and legally. He said, "After 31 years in law enforcement, rising from ASP to IGP, I assure you that you will see one of the most peaceful campaigns. We will follow the law and treat everyone with respect."
Abba explained that he joined politics not to fight anyone but to serve the people.
He also stated he wants to be in the Senate to use his experience to bring benefits to the people of Jigawa Southwest and advocate for their rights.
The former IGP listed some of his priorities if elected as Senator for Jigawa Central, including agriculture, security, and job creation for the youth in the area.
He said, "I am a champion for the less privileged; I promise to do my best to ensure justice and that my people are well represented in the Senate."
He expressed confidence that with the support of the people, the PDP will take back Jigawa State in the 2027 elections.
