The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has urged all Nigerians to come together against insurgency and other security issues facing the country. They stressed that Nigeria's diversity is a major strength that should not be weakened by criminals trying to create fear and division.
This call comes after the successful rescue of students and teachers kidnapped by suspected terrorists in schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The rescue followed a careful, intelligence-driven security operation.
The Director-General of the Agency, Mr Lanre Issa-Onilu, praised the bravery, professionalism, and dedication of the nation’s security agencies. He called the operation a clear example of what can happen when security forces work together with good planning and intelligence.
He specifically highlighted the month-long operation in the thick forests of the Old Oyo National Park. Security operatives used careful planning, shared intelligence, and teamwork to identify key terrorists, disrupt their supply chains, and rescue the victims safely without paying any ransom.
According to Mr Issa-Onilu, the success of this operation sends a strong message that criminals cannot outsmart a united nation determined to act.
He encouraged Nigerians to keep supporting security agencies by staying alert, reporting any suspicious activities quickly, and not letting ethnic, religious, or political differences weaken their united effort to defeat those threatening Nigeria’s peace.
“The job of securing our nation is not just for the government and security agencies,” he said. “Every Nigerian has a role to play. When citizens cooperate with security agencies, share useful information, and reject divisive stories, we boost our ability to protect our communities and our nation.”
The Director-General also honored the brave men and women in the security services who risked their lives or got hurt during the operation. He said their courage and selflessness are a strong reminder of the high price many pay to keep Nigeria safe.
He reaffirmed the NOA's commitment to promoting national values, responsible citizenship, and civic awareness through its wide network across the 774 Local Government Areas in Nigeria. He mentioned that the Agency will keep engaging communities, mobilizing citizens, and encouraging more public involvement in creating a peaceful and united Nigeria.
Mr Issa-Onilu urged Nigerians to take heart from the successes of the security agencies and to stay strong in the belief that, through unity and collective effort, the country will continue to defeat those who want to disrupt its peace and progress.
