A 23-year-old nursing student from the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor, in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, has been found dead in her home in Uruezeani, Alor.

The victim, Chiamaka Chilaka, was an ND II student and hailed from Isingu in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State. She was discovered lifeless on Sunday after attending church service.

A video circulating on social media shows a cleric crying out in distress over her death. He repeatedly shouted, “My daughter, my daughter.”

Reports claim that the landlord had been making unwanted advances towards Chiamaka, which she turned down. It is said that she was last seen arguing with him.

On Thursday, the Anambra State Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the situation. He said the landlord has been arrested and investigations are ongoing.

Ikenga mentioned that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered a full investigation after the case was moved from the Nnobi Divisional Police Headquarters to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka.

Police at the scene found visible injuries on Chiamaka's body. There was a deep cut on her thigh and other signs of violence along with blood stains, which point to possible foul play.

The statement said, “The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed investigative officers to speed up the investigation into the suspected murder of a 23-year-old female student whose body was found in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.”

Ikenga added that Chiamaka’s body is now in a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

“Meanwhile, the landlord has been taken into custody and is being interrogated as part of the ongoing investigations,” he said.

The police assured the public that they are conducting a thorough investigation. They promised that anyone found guilty will face justice.

Ikenga also urged anyone with helpful information to come forward to aid the investigation.
