The Forum of Former Members of the Ondo State House of Assembly has thrown its weight behind the All Progressives Congress National Assembly candidates for the 2027 general election. They are calling on party members to come together in support of the party as the elections approach.
The forum also praised President Bola Tinubu, the APC National Working Committee, and the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for their leadership in making the party stronger.
This position came out in a communiqué after the forum’s meeting in Akure on Friday. The statement was signed by the forum’s Chairman, Olugbenga Araoyinbo, and the Public Relations Officer, Tayo Abidakun.
The ex-lawmakers expressed their admiration for Tinubu’s leadership and his commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda.
"We express our profound appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his exemplary leadership, steadfast commitment to democratic ideals, and unwavering dedication to repositioning Nigeria through the Renewed Hope Agenda. His leadership continues to strengthen the APC as the foremost progressive political platform in Nigeria," the statement said.
The forum also commended the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, and the members of the National Working Committee and the National Executive Committee. They praised their transparent leadership during the party’s primary elections.
The group mentioned that the way the primaries were held boosted confidence in the APC’s internal democratic process. They also recognized Tunji-Ojo as a key player in promoting the party's growth and unity in Ondo State.
"The Forum also pays glowing tribute to the Honourable Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for his exemplary leadership, outstanding performance in public service, and unwavering commitment to the growth and unity of the APC in Ondo State," the statement read.
The former lawmakers congratulated all the party’s National Assembly candidates, saying their selection showed the trust placed in them by delegates and stakeholders.
"Our endorsement of the APC National Assembly candidates is total, unequivocal and collective. It is borne out of our firm conviction that the success of every APC candidate is fundamental to consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda and ensuring effective legislative support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu," the statement continued.
The forum promised to rally its members and grassroots supporters across the 18 local government areas of the state to ensure all APC candidates win.
They also condemned what they called state-sponsored protests against the party’s National Assembly candidates’ list. They expressed support for the decision made by the APC National Working Committee.
The group urged all aspirants and stakeholders to move past the primary election and collaborate for the party’s success.
"We particularly call on all victorious candidates to be magnanimous in victory by extending hands of fellowship to fellow aspirants, their supporters and every segment of our great party. Lasting political success is built not on exclusion but on inclusion, consultation, mutual respect and shared purpose," the statement added.
The forum encouraged APC members, youths, women, and supporters across Ondo State to stay united as the 2027 general election approaches. They said the common goal should be the re-election of President Tinubu and the success of all APC National Assembly candidates in the state.
