One Year Later, Kwankwaso's Transformer Still Not Installed in Nasarawa Community

One year after Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano State, donated a transformer to the Mai-Gizo community in Angwan Shamaki, Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, residents are still waiting for light. The transformer has not been installed and remains on the ground.

Kwankwaso made the donation after he saw that the community had no electricity. This was surprising since the community is close to the Keffi NYSC camp.

Idris Bello, the community leader, said Kwankwaso, who is the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, delivered the transformer less than 24 hours after he promised to do so.

But one year later, the transformer is still not set up. Bello mentioned that Wadada Aliyu, the Nasarawa State All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, supported the effort by giving ₦1 million for the installation.

Despite this contribution, Bello said the amount is not enough to finish the project. "We have reached out to the state government also to assist, yet the facility is still lying on the ground one year later," he said.

Bello expressed frustration, saying residents have suffered without power for about three years. He added that Kwankwaso's help had initially raised their hopes.

"Our community has been without light for the past three years. With Kwankwaso, we were hopeful, but up till now, we are still in darkness," he said.

To protect the transformer from theft or damage, Bello said the community has hired security personnel. The residents and leaders have asked Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, to step in and provide the funds needed for the installation.

They believe that installing the transformer would finally end their long struggle with power outages and give them access to electricity.
