Residents of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area are begging for urgent help after two separate night attacks by armed youth gangs raised serious fears about their safety.

PUNCH Metro learned that the latest attack happened on Saturday, July 4, 2026. At least one person ended up in the hospital with serious machete wounds. This incident came just a week after another violent attack in the area.

Residents told our reporters that this latest invasion took place around 9:30 PM on Alimi Oka Street. A large group of young boys marched through the community, waving cutlasses, machetes, and broken bottles, which forced many people to stay indoors.

A resident named Rasheedat shared her concerns with PUNCH Metro on Sunday. She said the community has faced many attacks believed to be connected to cult groups or political thugs.

"They usually come at night and terrorise residents. This is not the first time, and I think it will continue if proper security measures are not put in place.

"Some people say they are political thugs; others believe they are cult groups. Something needs to be done as fast as possible," she said.

A community leader, Elder Fatai Bammore, also spoke up. He called for more police presence in the area to stop these hoodlums from recruiting local youths to cause trouble.

"It is on this note that people are crying out. Oshodi is usually like this during the electioneering period," Bammore said.

Before the attack on July 4, PUNCH Metro found out that another serious incident happened near Orile Oshodi Bus Stop along Oshodi Road just before 11 PM on Sunday, June 28, 2026.

Eyewitnesses said a gang of masked youths attacked passersby and disrupted traffic. One eyewitness, Adewale, barely escaped the attack after coming out from a nearby compound. He shared how the attack went down.

"The bus pointed its headlights at them. To our surprise, these guys didn’t leave the road because they were armed with cutlasses, broken bottles, and guns. Immediately after they saw the light, there was a gunshot," he said.

Adewale said the attackers thought he was a vigilante or security person and began chasing him through the neighborhood.

"In fact, the gunshot was targeted right at me, but I managed to escape the bullet. They started throwing broken bottles at me. I could hear the sound of bottles smashing behind me as I ran," he added.

He finally escaped by slipping through a small gate near a local food area and locking it behind him. Frustrated that he got away, the gang then turned on other people nearby.

"An innocent bystander cornered by the gang was brutally attacked," Adewale said.

Residents said this victim suffered deep machete cuts on his back and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The attackers also forced their way into a house in the compound while looking for Adewale.

A female resident, Chima, shared her scary experience.

"They entered right into our house, asking, ‘Where is he? Where is the person?’ God saved me because I was smart enough to keep shouting at those boys, ‘Nobody entered here! I’m a lady, I’m a woman, I’m not a man!’ That was what saved me; otherwise, they would have dealt with me too."

PUNCH Metro found out that the incident was reported at Makinde Police Station the next morning. The state police command spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, had not yet commented on the residents' plea.

However, the command announced they arrested 135 suspected cultists and recovered 26 firearms during raids on criminal hideouts across the state ahead of the annual July 7 cult-related activities.

It was not clear if those arrested included the suspects terrorizing the Oshodi community.
