The Osun State Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Tosin Odeyemi, has stepped down from his role. He is now the acting state chairman of the newly registered Democratic Leadership Alliance.

Odeyemi is a close associate of former Kano State Governor, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. He announced his resignation in a letter dated July 16, which he sent to the NNPP National Chairman. He did not give a reason for his departure.

In the letter, he stated, “I do hereby resign from your party. Delete my names and details from your register.”

Odeyemi introduced his new party on Saturday. He shared his appointment letter as the pioneer acting chairman of the Democratic Leadership Alliance in Osun State. He mentioned that he is ready to take on the responsibilities of this new role.

The appointment letter, dated July 17, 2026, was signed by the DLA National Chairman, Mr Samuel Memeh. Memeh stated that the appointment was approved by the party’s National Executive Committee.

“Following the approval of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and acting pursuant to the powers of the National Chairman and the National Working Committee (NWC) under the Constitution of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), you are hereby appointed as the Acting State Chairman (Protem) of the Osun State Chapter of the Party with immediate effect.

“As Acting State Chairman, you are expected to: 1. Establish and maintain effective party structures across the State; 2. Uphold the Constitution and ideology of the Party; and 3. Report directly to the National Working Committee on the progress and activities of the State Chapter,” the letter continued.

In an interview with The PUNCH on Saturday, Odeyemi thanked the DLA National Chairman, the NEC, and the NWC for trusting him to lead the party in Osun.

“I accept this responsibility with humility and a deep sense of duty. Our immediate task is to bring every genuine member together, ensure discipline, and make the DLA a credible alternative for the people of Osun who are yearning for purposeful leadership,” Odeyemi said.

He promised the national leadership that the Osun chapter would operate with transparency. He called on members and stakeholders to support the new platform.

The PUNCH reported earlier that the New Nigeria Peoples Party in Osun State held a congress where new executives were elected for a fresh four-year term.

During the congress in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, Odeyemi was re-elected as the incumbent state chairman. Other elected officials included Adekunle Abolade as Deputy Chairman, Hisa Oladeji as Secretary, Mofolasayo Makinde as Treasurer, Aderonke Aderemi as Financial Secretary, Olanrewaju Hassan as Internal Auditor, Olayode Abidemi as Youth Leader, Ajileye Balikis as Women Leader, and Olayode Olawumi as Legal Adviser.
