Three of Nigeria's wealthiest men, Aliko Dangote, Femi Otedola, and AbdulSamad Rabiu, gathered on Sunday for a special dinner. This dinner was held to honor Obafemi Hamzat, the deputy governor of Lagos State and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the upcoming 2027 elections.

Mr Rabiu, who is the founder and executive chairman of BUA Group, shared this news on his Facebook page. He posted a photo of the four men together.

Mr Rabiu mentioned that the dinner was hosted by Mr Otedola at his home in recognition of Mr Hamzat. As the chair of ASR Africa, a philanthropic group focused on Africa, Mr Rabiu also wished Mr Hamzat success in his campaign.

"An evening of warm friendship and meaningful conversations. I extend my warmest wishes to Dr Hamzat as he pursues his ambition to lead Lagos State, wishing him every success in the journey ahead," Mr Rabiu wrote.

He called the dinner "memorable" and referred to Mr Otedola, the host, as his "dear friend and brother."

Mr Hamzat is aiming to take over from Mr Sanwo-Olu, whose second term ends in 2027. He became the APC candidate for the governorship election in May 2026.

Since May 2019, Mr Hamzat has been the deputy governor of Lagos, working alongside Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. He was re-elected for a second term in 2023.

Before his role as deputy governor, Mr Hamzat was Lagos commissioner for science and technology from 2005 to 2011. He then served as commissioner for works and infrastructure from 2011 to 2015.

He also has a background in the private sector. He worked at Oando Plc as the chief information officer.
