Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has pointed out seven key sectors and investment chances to boost industrialization and economic growth in the state.

Mr Otti shared this at the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) "Meet the Governor Series" on Thursday in Lagos.

The theme of the event was: "Repositioning Abia for Enterprise, Industrialisation and Sustainable Economic Growth".

The governor mentioned the priority sectors as agribusiness and agro-processing, trade and markets, creative and digital economy, manufacturing and industrialisation.

Other sectors include Small and Medium Enterprise growth and the informal sector, inclusive finance, and diaspora investment and innovation.

He explained that these sectors aim to make the best use of Abia’s productive base while creating chances for both local and foreign investment.

Mr Otti’s statement that Abia is "open for business" pointed to reforms in governance, infrastructure, human capital development and investment chances across important sectors.

He noted that the state’s budget for 2026 is N1.016 trillion, with 80 percent set aside for capital projects.

He added that the internally generated revenue, which aims for N223.4 billion, is expected to cover regular expenses.

Mr Otti said this plan is meant to attract outside and private money into infrastructure and other areas that can drive growth.

He mentioned that the state has made progress in being transparent about finances, ranking fourth in the BudgIT States Fiscal Transparency League in the last quarter of 2025.

Mr Otti said developing infrastructure is key to the state’s plan to attract investors.

He reported that 414 roads have been finished across the state, with another 82 still in progress.

The governor also noted that over 10,000 solar-powered streetlights have been set up in Aba, Umuahia, and Ohafia.

"Enterprise needs infrastructure: roads move goods, light creates safety, and movement creates commerce. Abia is building the physical platform for investments," he said.

Mr Otti explained that investment chances in the state are set across various parts of the value chain.

He said investors can get involved at the plantation, processing, manufacturing, or off-take levels.

"Under agribusiness and agro-processing, we have identified integrated livestock ranching and dairy, cashew and cocoa plantations, as well as rubber estates and processing.

"In manufacturing and industrialisation, there are opportunities in garment manufacturing, ceramics production, and leather and tannery works.

"This is especially true as chances exist to develop Aba’s artisan base into formal, larger-scale production," he said.

Mr Otti also pointed out tourism and hospitality opportunities around Enyimba Hotels in Aba, Umuahia Recreational Park, and Ibom Waterfall.

He mentioned that chances in power, transport, and logistics include utilities operation and maintenance and the Azumiri Seaport.

He described the seaport as a potential trade and logistics hub.

Mr Otti further highlighted the Abia industrial innovation park and economic zone as chances for serviced enterprise, industrial, and commercial development.

In healthcare, he noted the proposed Abia medical city, specialist hospital, and diagnostic centre as investment opportunities.

He said these projects would support integrated medical and wellness infrastructure in the state.

The governor emphasized that investments in education and healthcare are also happening because of the workforce needed to keep economic growth going.
