Governor Alex Otti celebrates Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe on his 86th birthday, highlighting his role in democracy and his strong character.
Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has sent warm wishes to a respected Abia leader and former Chief of General Staff, Commodore Ebitu Okoh Ukiwe, as he marks his 86th birthday.
The message was shared on Monday, 26 October, by Ferdinand Ekeoma, who is the special adviser on media and publicity to Governor Otti.
In the birthday message, Governor Otti praised the esteemed leader, calling him a remarkable Nigerian with strong values and a history of excellence.
The Governor said, "It is a thing of joy to celebrate a father figure; a distinguished Nigerian statesman and an accomplished military professional with sound character and a proven track record of excellence."
"Ochiagha Ebitu Okoh Ukiwe is, by all estimations, a national icon with sound principles and impeccable character. He is indeed the pride of Abia, hence we are glad and proud to celebrate him on a day like this."
Governor Otti remembered how Commodore Ukiwe stepped down from his high position as the second-in-command of the country to protect his principles and reputation. He described him as a rare gem and a great example for today’s politicians and public servants.

Remembering the Fight for Democracy
The Abia Governor also reflected on Commodore Ukiwe’s contribution to Nigeria’s return to democracy. He led a group called NADECO, which fought to restore the June 12, 1993 election victory of the late Chief M.K.O Abiola. The Governor urged the nation to recognize Ukiwe's significant role in promoting peace and democracy.
Governor Otti announced that his government will celebrate Commodore Ukiwe’s 86th birthday with a special event to honor his service to the nation and humanity.
On behalf of his family, the government, and the people of Abia State, Governor Otti thanked Commodore Ukiwe for being a source of pride and prayed for his continued health and many more joyful birthdays in the future.
