Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has ordered the removal of any delays in starting the new allowances for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Abia.
Otti gave this order on Tuesday when he met the new State Coordinator of the NYSC, Yunusa Tanimu, in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.
“I am surprised that the extra allowance that I approved has not been implemented.
“Please, can you ensure that whatever it is is dealt with immediately?
“The last time, I was told it’s about BVN, and I’m sure I tried to solve it. So, if there is any other problem, please, can you get the Head of Service to solve it?
Otti emphasized his government’s dedication to the wellbeing of corps members. He mentioned their roles in education, healthcare and other important areas for the state’s growth.
The governor congratulated Tanimu on his new role in Abia.
Earlier, Tanimu mentioned he was visiting to introduce himself after becoming the NYSC state coordinator.
He asked for the full rollout of the approved allowance for corps members in the state.
Tanimu praised Governor Otti for his work on development, especially in infrastructure, and thanked him for supporting the NYSC.
He also requested the state government to help with the renovation of accommodation for corps members and the multi-purpose hall at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Umunna. He asked for the building of internal roads at the camp.
Additionally, Tanimu called for solar-powered streetlights at the camp, better logistics for the orientation camp, increased allowances, a new state secretariat, and funds to furnish the office.
Tanimu assured the governor that the NYSC would keep supporting the growth of Abia and Nigeria.
