The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says that 1,906,390 registered voters in Osun State have picked up their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) before Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
Mohammed Haruna, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education, shared this news in a statement on Thursday from Abuja.
Mr Haruna noted that this number is 81.50 percent of the total 2,339,233 registered voters in the state.
He added that 432,843 voters, which is 18.50 percent of the total, have not collected their PVCs yet.
He explained that the uncollected PVCs have been securely kept with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), following INEC’s usual procedure.
"Persons whose PVCs were damaged, defaced or lost applied for replacement of cards," he mentioned.
Mr Haruna also said that 6,101 voters requested and received printed downloadable copies of their PVCs.
He mentioned that the commission has put the number of PVCs collected at each polling unit on its website.
The national commissioner assured political parties, civil society groups, the media, and voters that INEC is ready to conduct a credible and transparent election on Saturday.
