The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved Governor Seyi Makinde’s request for his annual leave starting from 10 August.
The letter detailing the request was read out during Thursday’s plenary session. It also mentioned that Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal would manage the state while Mr Makinde is away.
Muhammed Fadeyi, the Deputy Speaker of the House, led the plenary session since the speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, was not present. He read the governor’s letter to the members.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor’s leave will last from 10 August to 11 September. He is expected to return to work on 14 September.
The lawmakers agreed to the request without any objections. They expressed their trust that Deputy Governor Lawal would ensure smooth governance during Mr Makinde’s absence.
The assembly members assigned Lawal to handle the daily running of the state. They want to make sure that government activities keep going without any interruptions until Mr Makinde is back.
After the approval, Mr Fadeyi wished the governor a restful and enjoyable vacation.
He noted that the legislature is dedicated to maintaining a good relationship with the executive for the benefit of Oyo State's people.
Mr Fadeyi also showed confidence in the deputy governor’s ability to lead effectively while Mr Makinde is away.
He described the state's governance system as stable and capable of ensuring that policies continue to be implemented without any issues.
