Oyo Governor's Chief of Staff Steps Down

Segun Ogunwuyi, the Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, has resigned from his job. He is the latest aide to leave the governor's team.

Punch reported that Mr Ogunwuyi announced his resignation in a letter dated 12 October (Monday). He said the resignation took effect immediately.

"I respectfully write to resign my appointment as Chief of Staff to the Governor of Oyo State, with effect from today, 12th October, 2026," he wrote.

Mr Ogunwuyi did not give a reason for his resignation in the letter. His exit comes after months of rumors about his fading interest in the governor's politics, which he once supported actively.

In his letter, Mr Ogunwuyi thanked the governor for the chance to serve the state. He called his time in the administration an honour.

"Serving the government and the good people of Oyo State has been a great honour. It has been deeply fulfilling to be part of the exceptional team that has worked relentlessly to deliver the remarkable achievements of this administration," the letter stated.

Mr Ogunwuyi said he is proud of what the administration has done, especially its efforts to boost the state’s growth and development. He believes Oyo State will continue to progress even after his departure.

"Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest esteem and unwavering loyalty to Oyo State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria," he added.

Mr Ogunwuyi used to be a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives. He represented the Ogbomoso North, South, and Oriire Federal Constituency before he joined Mr Makinde’s administration as chief of staff.

His resignation comes as several political appointees have left the governor's administration in recent months.

Still, Mr Ogunwuyi did not say if his decision is linked to these departures. He also did not mention if he plans to seek another political role or ambition.

His resignation comes while Mr Makinde is looking to run for president in the 2027 elections under the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
