PDP Calls for Investigation into Fadahunsi's Election Comments

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked for an investigation into comments made by Senator Francis Fadahunsi in a viral video. In the video, he allegedly threatened violence against political opponents before the 2027 elections.

The PDP made this request in a statement from its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, on X on Wednesday.

The party said that Nigerians and the international community were shocked by the senator’s comments. They described his remarks as uncivil and unacceptable in a democracy.

In the viral video, Fadahunsi reportedly said: “So, we have come to tell you, up till the day of the election, if we see them, it is killing.”

The PDP condemned his statement, arguing that elections should allow citizens to choose their leaders freely, not turn into a platform for threats and violence.

The opposition party also connected the senator’s comments to a pattern of aggressive language from members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the PDP, the APC’s presidential candidate has previously said, “Political power is not going to be served in a restaurant… At all cost, fight for it, grab it, and run with it,” and “all is fair in politics.”

“These and many more hurtful remarks have been used by the ruling party without remorse,” the PDP said. They believe these statements have added to the rising political tension in the country.

The party stressed that elections should not be a do-or-die affair but should give citizens the chance to choose their representatives freely.

“What Nigerians face instead is a ruling party that has made warlike language normal. They are intimidating people, silencing the opposition, and trying to dictate the outcome of the 2027 elections,” the statement read.

The PDP specifically called for an investigation into the Fadahunsi incident and other threats to peaceful and transparent elections in Osun State.

They also urged President Bola Tinubu, the APC, and their officials to avoid what they called anti-democratic messages and threats disguised as political talk.

The party insisted that civility should be at the heart of political communication. They believe that election results should truly reflect the will of the voters as expressed through the ballot.

“Civility must take centre stage in our political communication, and the elections must be a true reflection of the will of the people, freely given through the ballot,” the PDP stated.

The opposition party described this as the “irreducible minimum” that the government and all political parties should follow to protect Nigeria’s democracy.

“This is the irreducible minimum, which the government and all political parties must adhere to, in the interest of the survival of democracy and the country,” Ememobong concluded.
