PDP Picks Mohammed Nami as Governorship Candidate for 2027

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger State has chosen Mohammed Nami as its candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

This decision came after other party aspirants agreed to step down and back Mr Nami. The party sees this as a show of trust in his leadership skills.

Aliyu Halidu, the state PDP chairman, confirmed the news. He called Mr Nami a man of integrity and someone with strong leadership qualities.

Mr Halidu stated that the other aspirants' choice to withdraw for Mr Nami shows they believe in his ability to lead and govern Niger State effectively.

He added that Mr Nami knows his strengths and has the experience needed to lead the people well.

The chairman believes that Mr Nami's selection will boost the party's strength and help it compete strongly in the 2027 election.

Mr Halidu is also hopeful about the PDP's chances in the upcoming election. He noted that the party still has a good amount of support nationwide.

He mentioned that talking with people in various communities in Niger State shows many are still loyal to the PDP and ready to back the party in the next election.

The chairman emphasized that the party's renewed unity will help it reconnect with voters, improve its structure, and present a solid challenge for the governorship position in 2027.

The PDP has been in control of Niger State at different times since Nigeria returned to democracy in 1999.

The party governed the state for 16 years with Abdulkadir Kure from 1999 to 2007 and Babangida Aliyu from 2007 to 2015.

However, since 2015, the PDP has been in opposition in Niger State, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in charge of the state government.

The 2027 governorship election is expected to be a significant battle as the PDP aims to regain control of the state.
