The family of Dan Orbih, the National Vice-Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the South-South, has confirmed that he died on Monday.

The family shared this news in a statement released on Tuesday in Benin by Francis Orbih.

They described Dan Orbih as a dear brother, husband, father, and uncle. They said his death brought them "profound sadness and a heavy heart."

The family noted that he is survived by his wife, Florence, and his children, Winifred and Mildred, along with brothers, sisters, and other relatives.

"At this difficult time, we ask family members, friends, and well-wishers to remember the entire family in their prayers as we mourn this painful loss," the statement said.

They also mentioned that more details about the burial and other arrangements would be shared later.

The family encouraged everyone to keep praying for them during this mourning period.

The News Agency of Nigeria reported that Mr Orbih was a former PDP chairman in Edo State before becoming the national vice chairman for the South-South region.

Godwin Obaseki, a former Governor of Edo State, called Mr Orbih’s death a major loss for both the state and Nigeria.

He said that Mr Orbih’s long involvement in public service secured him a place in Edo's political history.

Mr Obaseki offered condolences to Orbih’s wife, children, family, political associates, and colleagues.
