The Bauchi State Police have rescued two people who were kidnapped. This happened during a joint operation in Gwamnare Forest, located in Ningi Local Government Area.
The operation involved a team made up of the Violent Crime Response Unit, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Divisional Police Officer in Ningi, and Forestry Guards. This was done following the instruction from the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, to step up efforts in areas facing more kidnappings.
Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Abubakar, shared this information in a statement on Thursday. He said the Commissioner told tactical teams to move to communities that had experienced recent kidnappings. The goal was to safely rescue victims and catch the suspects.
Abubakar said, “In compliance with the Commissioner’s directive, operatives of the Command have successfully rescued two kidnap victims during a joint security operation conducted in Gwamnare Forest, Ningi Local Government Area.”
He went on to explain that the operation started because of ongoing kidnapping cases in Dogon Ruwa and Rafin Chiyawa villages near Gwamnare Forest. “During the operation, the team successfully rescued two victims, Alhaji Yahaya, male, 50 years old, of Masallachi Hamlet, Dogon Ruwa Village, and Alhaji Kabiru, male, of Gwamnare Forest.”
The statement also mentioned that no one was hurt or killed during the operation. The police spokesperson noted that they are still working to rescue other victims who are believed to be held captive.
He added that the Commissioner of Police praised the courage and skill shown by the security team. He assured the people of Dogon Ruwa, Rafin Chiyawa, and nearby areas that the police are committed to driving criminals out of the forests in the state.
