Police catch disabled man and two others over illegal gun deal

The Kwara State Police have arrested a physically challenged man named Joseph Adeoye, 52, and another suspect, Issa Fatai, 35. They are accused of illegally possessing and trying to buy a locally made pistol.

The arrests were part of several criminal cases shared by the state Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo. He spoke during a press briefing in Ilorin on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

Ojo explained that police officers caught Adeoye at a bar near Ojatuntun Market while they were watching the area. They found a locally made, cut-to-size pistol on him.

After questioning him, police tracked down Fatai, who was said to be the intended buyer of the gun. They arrested him as well.

The commissioner noted that both men admitted to being part of the deal during their questioning. He added that investigations are still ongoing.

Ojo mentioned that the suspects are in police custody and will be taken to court once the investigation is complete. He said these arrests are part of the police's stronger efforts to tackle illegal gun possession, kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes in the state.
