A 28-year-old man reportedly bought an iPhone 12 for N25,000 after it was stolen during a burglary in Osun State. The state police announced the arrest of two suspects involved in this crime on Sunday.
The police said they arrested the two men for a burglary where valuables worth about ₦3 million were taken. These included laptops, phones, and power banks.
One of the suspects, 27-year-old Eyelade Anuoluwa, was arrested in Ibadan, Oyo State. This followed intelligence gathered by officers from the Ilesa Area Command.
According to a statement from the police spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, Anuoluwa allegedly broke into the complainant's home on July 26, 2026. He stole “one HP laptop, one Dell laptop, an iPhone 12, one Android phone, two power banks, and recharge cards, with a total value of ₦3,000,000.”
After his arrest, the police transferred Anuoluwa to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further questioning. During this time, he reportedly confessed to the crime.
The police said that more investigation led to Anuoluwa revealing that some of the stolen items were given to a receiver in Ibadan. They noted, “Consequently, police operatives from SCID carried out an intelligence-led operation which resulted in the arrest of one of the receivers, Abdullah Musa'm’, aged 28, in Ibadan.”
Musa also confessed to receiving the stolen items. He is now under investigation for his alleged role in “the activities of a syndicate dealing in stolen items.”
Musa admitted that “he bought an iPhone 12 from the suspect for twenty-five thousand naira (N25,000).” The police said this operation led to the recovery of several items. These included one HP laptop, one Dell laptop, a small Samsung phone, a mini DP charger, two power banks, one Apple iPad, 16GB, and one scrap phone.
The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Zungura, praised the officers for their hard work and intelligence-led actions that led to the arrests and recovery of the stolen goods.
The police stated that investigations are ongoing. They aim to find out the full extent of the suspects' activities, identify others involved in the crime, and recover more stolen items.
The police added that the suspects “will be charged to court once the investigation is complete.” They also urged the public “to stay alert and report any suspicious activities or people to the police through the right channels.”
