Police in Lagos have arrested a suspected cultist and recovered a locally made pistol with one live cartridge. This happened during a routine stop-and-search in the Ijaiye/Ojokoro area.
Officers stopped a motorcycle carrying three passengers. They discovered that the suspect, Yusuf Lamina Adigun, 27, had the weapon on him.
This information came from a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, on July 4, 2026.
"During the search, one of the passengers, Yusuf Lamina Adigun, a 27-year-old male, was found in possession of a locally made pistol loaded with one live cartridge," the police said.
The police reported that Adigun confessed to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity. He also revealed plans for an attack that was supposed to happen.
The statement read, "During preliminary interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity. He further disclosed that he and other members of the cult group, who are currently at large, were on a mission to launch an attack on some individuals before they were intercepted by the Police."
The police said Adigun is still in custody as investigations progress.
"The suspect is currently in Police custody while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the criminal group and recover additional weapons that may be in their possession," the statement added.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, emphasized the Command's commitment to fighting violent crime. He said they will keep using intelligence and proactive policing strategies.
The Commissioner also called on residents to assist the police by sharing information.
He urged the people to "remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information that will assist the Police in preventing crime and ensuring the safety and security of all."
