Police nab 50-year-old man for allegedly assaulting two girls in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old man known as Godwin for allegedly assaulting two girls in Ogale, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The police arrested him on Monday at his home after parents of the girls, aged 13 and 11, made a formal complaint.

The father of the older girl, Cletus (other names withheld), claimed that the suspect usually sends the children on errands. After they return with the items he asked for, he invites them into his room.

Cletus said, “Then he will lock the door, turn up the volume of his music and sexually assault the children.”

He also claimed that the suspect threatened to harm the girls if they told anyone about what happened to them.

On Thursday, Blessing Agabe, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the arrest. She said the investigation is still ongoing.

Agabe, who is an Assistant Superintendent of Police, noted that the police have not yet received the medical form given to the girls' parents to check the truth of the allegations.

She stated, “Yes, I can confirm the arrest of the suspect. He is in our custody. However, the police issued a medical form to enable the girls to go for examination.

“As I speak to you, we are still waiting for the results because it will show if there was penetration and so on. If that happens, then we will transfer the case to the appropriate bureau.

“So, we are still investigating, and the form we have issued is part of that investigation.
