Police nab drug dealer and six others after finding guns in abandoned bike

The police in Anambra State have arrested a suspected female drug dealer and six other suspects during recent operations in the state.

Police spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga shared this news on Friday. He said the raids were part of efforts led by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu. The operations target violent crimes, cultism, and illegal drug activities.

Ikenga, a police superintendent, mentioned that one of the suspects, Ifeanyi Ogbuagbo, is thought to be part of a separatist group in the area. “Acting on credible intelligence in the evening of 13 August 2026, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit arrested a 65-year-old man, Ifeanyi Ogbuagbo, in Umudioka,” he stated.

The police spokesperson said a search of Ogbuagbo's home uncovered an army uniform and spent ammunition shells hidden in a black bag. “Preliminary information shows that the suspect is linked to a criminal gang pushing for self-government,” he added.

“The suspect has been taken into custody for investigation, while efforts are ongoing to understand the full situation around the recovered items and his alleged activities,” he noted.

More arrests

Ikenga reported that later the same Thursday, police raided a suspected criminal hideout in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area, and arrested six more suspects. The suspects include Onyedika Moses, 36; Iruka Nwaonu, 30; Joseph Nwankwo, 36; Chukwujekwu Nwoso, 32; and Akanimo Orok, 40. The only female among those arrested is Chisom Okafor, 25.

“During the operation, we found a large amount of dried weeds believed to be Cannabis Sativa and other substances thought to be illegal drugs,” he said. Ikenga added that the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnanna Ama, has promised to continue intelligence-led operations, strategic patrols, and coordinated raids to break criminal networks, stop illegal drug sales, and deny criminals safe places to operate.

Ama also ordered that the ongoing raids on criminal hideouts and drug-selling spots should be stepped up and maintained across the state.

Recovery of an abandoned vehicle with rifles

In a separate announcement earlier on Friday, Ikenga said police operatives found two homemade pistols and three caps with markings linked to a secret cult from an abandoned motorcycle in Awka North Local Government Area.

He explained that the firearms were recovered during a routine patrol in the region. “The operatives in the afternoon of 13 August 2026, while patrolling along Isuaniocha Bridge, saw two young men riding a black Sanyang motorcycle without a registration number.

“The suspects, upon seeing the police team, abruptly turned the motorcycle in what seemed like an attempt to escape,” he said. Ikenga noted that the suspicious move made the officers chase them.

“During the chase, the suspects fell off the motorcycle and left it, along with two slippers and a bag, before running into the bush,” he explained. A search of the abandoned bag revealed two homemade pistols and three caps linked to the Vikings Confraternity.

“Efforts are ongoing to catch the fleeing suspects and find out their identities, affiliations, and the situation around the recovered firearms and items,” he added. The spokesman stated that Ama has reaffirmed the Command's commitment to continuous patrols, intelligence-led operations, and proactive policing to fight crime and protect the residents of the state. He also directed that efforts should be intensified to capture the fleeing suspects.
