Police nab fake doctor in Oyo for fertility scams

Adeniyi Benjamin, 45, was arrested in Oyo for practicing medicine without a license. He focused on fertility treatments and has been operating for seven years.

The Oyo State Police have arrested a 45-year-old man named Adeniyi Benjamin. He was taken in for allegedly running an unlicensed medical practice in Ibadan.

This information came from a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.

Benjamin was caught on October 2 at Life Is Good Hospital in the Olodo area. Police operatives from the Command Monitoring Unit acted on tips about his actions.

The police said they found him treating patients and giving medical advice, especially for fertility issues, even though he is not a certified doctor.

Items taken from the hospital included two weighing scales, four Quantum Magnetic Resonance Body Analysers, a stethoscope, a box of various medicines, and specimen bottles.

"In the initial investigation, the suspect admitted that he has been practicing as a quack for about seven years. He said he has been doing this without being a medical doctor or having any license to practice medicine.

He also claimed that he focuses on fertility treatments, which he has been providing to patients at the hospital," the statement noted.

Olayinka expressed concerns about the dangers faced by people seeking help from unqualified practitioners, especially in areas like fertility care.

The police urged the public to check the qualifications and registration of anyone offering medical services before using their services.

They also asked residents to report any suspicious medical facilities or individuals pretending to be medical practitioners without proper credentials to the police or other relevant authorities.

Olayinka mentioned that the investigation is still ongoing. They want to find out how far the suspect's actions go and if anyone else was involved in running the hospital.

He assured that the police will take the necessary legal actions.
