Police at the Zone One Headquarters in Kano have arrested five suspects. They were taken in for allegedly pretending to be a registered traditional medicine practitioner. They also face charges for making, selling, and distributing fake herbal medicine products.
This arrest was confirmed by Abdullahi Hussaini, the Public Relations Officer for Zone One, on Friday.
According to the statement, the suspects were caught after a complaint was made on August 10, 2026. The complaint came from Abdulwahab Abubakar, the CEO of Abdulwahab Abubakar Herbal and Islamic Clinic in Bauchi.
"The complainant said the suspects and others who are still at large have been using his name, business identity, and lectures to sell fake products.
"He also claimed that some of them took money from people in his name but did not deliver the medicines they bought, while others sold harmful fake herbal mixtures," the statement noted.
The arrested suspects include Muhammad Usman, Husaini Kabir, Hassan Kabir, Suleiman Salihu, and Nura Garba.
"The suspects have given statements admitting their involvement in this crime, and we are still investigating to find others connected to these activities," the statement added.
The Zone One Headquarters warned the public to be careful of fraudsters who use real businesses' names to trick people.
"The public should check the authenticity of products, vendors, and payment methods before buying, especially on social media," the statement said.
The police also cautioned anyone involved in similar actions to stop. They said anyone caught would face serious consequences under the law.
