Police nab four for stealing electricity equipment in Calabar

The Police Command in Cross River State has arrested four people for stealing and damaging electricity equipment in Calabar.

This was shared in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, on Friday in Calabar.

Eitokpah said the suspects include the main suspect, who is 36 years old, and three others caught during a follow-up operation.

He explained that their arrest came after questioning one of the suspects. This led police to search areas like Murtala Mohammed Highway, near Pepsi, and a dumpsite in the Harbour area of Calabar.

The police had previously reported the vandalism of electricity infrastructure at Agbo Ntoe Layout, Boulevard Road 2, close to Parliamentary Extension, Calabar.

According to Eitokpah, five other individuals were first arrested for questioning.

"However, two of them were released after initial investigations showed they were not involved, leaving three suspects in custody along with the main suspect," he said.

The PRO mentioned that investigations are still ongoing to find out what happened and the roles of the remaining suspects.

He quoted the state Commissioner of Police, Ajo Ordue, who emphasized the command’s promise to protect important public infrastructure.

Ordue also promised that anyone caught vandalizing or wrongfully possessing or receiving stolen electricity materials would face the law.

He urged the public to share reliable information that could help in the investigation and warned against buying or receiving items suspected to be stolen from electricity installations.

He encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
