Police Search for Man After Wife is Killed in Church

The Imo State Police Command is searching for a man accused of killing his wife inside a church in Owaelu, Owerri North Local Government Area. He reportedly ran away with two of their three children, leaving behind a baby beside her dead body.

The woman’s body was found on Monday morning. Neighbours heard the baby crying and traced the sound to the church.

The suspect allegedly took two of the children with him, leaving the baby with the deceased.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident on Monday. He said officers from the Owerri North Divisional Headquarters went to the scene and started efforts to catch the suspect and rescue the two children.

Okoye mentioned that the rescued baby was given to a trusted family member for proper care. He did not reveal the names of the deceased or the suspect, stating that investigations are ongoing.

He asked anyone with information about the suspect to report to the Owerri North Divisional Police Headquarters or call the command’s emergency line at 0803 477 3600.

Okoye said, “The Imo State Police Command is aware of the tragic incident reported this morning at Owaelu, Owerri North LGA, where the lifeless body of a woman, allegedly killed by her husband, was discovered on a church premises.

“The suspect reportedly fled with two of their children, leaving behind a suckling baby, who has since been rescued and handed over to a trusted family relative.

“The Divisional Police Officer, Owerri North Divisional Headquarters, has visited the scene, and efforts have been intensified to apprehend the suspect and rescue the two children.

“The command urges anyone with credible information to report to the Owerri North Divisional Police Headquarters or call the command’s emergency line on 0803 477 3600.”

At the time of this report, it was still unclear if the suspect was a cleric or had any official link with the church where the incident took place. The PPRO said investigations are still ongoing.
