The Safe School Initiative Unit of the Police Command in Anambra has started a search for a teacher. This teacher is accused of flogging a 12-year-old student, which led to the boy's death.

Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra, shared this information in a statement on Friday in Awka.

Ikenga explained that the incident took place on 16 July in Adazi-Ani, located in Anaocha Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

He said, "The Anambra Police Command has activated its SSI operations led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of operation, Harrison Oruruo."

"The team will, among other things, begin a manhunt for a teacher that allegedly flogged a 12-year-old student, resulting in the victim’s death at a school in Adazi-Ani, Anaocha LGA of the state," he added.

According to Ikenga, police got the report on the evening of 16 July. Officers from Neni Division responded quickly and took the victim to a hospital, where a doctor confirmed he had died while receiving treatment.

He also mentioned that the body was taken to the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

"Photographs of the deceased were taken, and initial observations showed visible marks of violence on different parts of the victim’s body," he said.

The police spokesman confirmed that the case is under investigation. He stated that all necessary actions are being taken to ensure that anyone responsible would face justice.

The police expressed deep concern over this sad incident. They assured the family of the deceased and the public that a thorough and transparent investigation would take place.

The police command also emphasized its commitment to protecting school children through the Safe School Initiative.

They encouraged anyone with useful information that could help catch the suspect to report to the nearest police station. People can also contact the police command through its emergency line: 07039194332.
