Police Stop Kidnap Attempt in Delta, Arrest Two Suspects

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have stopped a kidnapping plan in Ughelli, which is in Ughelli North Local Government Area. They arrested two suspects during separate intelligence-led operations.

This information came from a statement signed by Bright Edafe, the command’s spokesperson. Journalists in Warri received the statement on Wednesday.

The statement said, “On July 31, 2026, operatives of ‘A’ Division, Ughelli, acting on good information, stopped a kidnapping plan. They learned that Jeremiah Kwane, 26, tried to recruit someone into a kidnapping group to abduct a pastor and a retired school principal in Ughelli.”

Edafe said the police acted quickly on the intelligence, which led to the arrest of the suspect at his work site in Ughelli.

“A search during the operation found one single-barrel gun and two live cartridges,” he said, adding that “the suspect is now under further investigation.”

Arrest of Armed Robbery Suspects

In another case, on August 4, 2026, operatives of the Ebrumede Division were on a stop-and-search mission along Garki-Uti Road, Effurun. They stopped and caught three suspected armed robbers.

“During the operation, Benjamin Haruna, 28, was arrested, while two other suspects, Omelo and Alabanco, managed to escape on a motorcycle,” the statement said.

The police statement explained that “when they searched a bag that the suspects had, they found two locally made double-barrel guns, eleven live cartridges, one used cartridge, one axe, two Android phones, two power banks, two wristwatches, one lighter, and one camouflage military shirt.”

Preliminary investigation showed that “the suspects were taking the items to their hideout along Sapele Road.”

The statement ended by saying that the arrested suspects are still in custody. A manhunt is ongoing to catch the suspects who got away.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, has promised that the command will keep pursuing kidnappers, armed robbers, and other violent criminals. He also encouraged residents to keep giving the police timely and reliable information to help improve safety and security for everyone.
