The Kaduna State Police Command announced on Tuesday that they took down dangerous kidnappers, arrested 16 people suspected of kidnapping, and three suspected gunrunners. They also recovered 190 stolen solar inverters worth ₦69 million during various operations over the last two weeks.
In addition, the police seized 10 lithium batteries valued at about ₦9 million, 10 different firearms, 170 fake US dollar notes, 83 packs of hard drugs, 32 stolen mobile phones, two plasma TVs, a stolen Toyota Sienna vehicle, and over 400 rustled cattle during this period.
Speaking to journalists at the Command Headquarters in Kaduna, the Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, said the operations show the command's commitment to breaking down criminal networks that disturb peace and security in the state.
Muhammad stated, "In the two weeks under review, the Kaduna State Police Command neutralised notorious kidnappers, arrested 16 suspected kidnappers, six suspects found with 170 pieces of counterfeit dollar notes, three suspected gunrunners, recovered 10 firearms of different calibres, 190 solar inverters worth ₦69 million, one stolen vehicle, 83 packs of hard drugs, 32 stolen phones, two plasma televisions, and 410 cattle during various operations."
The commissioner revealed that one significant arrest was of a 20-year-old woman, Aisha Barau, in Ramin Kura Village. She was caught trying to exchange counterfeit US dollar notes for naira.
According to him, Aisha confessed that two men, Abdullahi Muhammad and Danbala Jibrin, supplied her with the fake currency. This led to the arrest of other members of the group.
"Further investigation led to the arrest of several other members of the syndicate. They will be prosecuted according to the law," he added.
Muhammad also shared that operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit tracked and arrested three suspected gunrunners in Jos, Plateau State. The suspects, Luka Samuel, John Paul, and Musa Elisha, were caught with two locally made pistols.
He mentioned that the suspects confessed to supplying arms and ammunition to bandits in various parts of the North. In another operation, police worked with the Yan Sa Kai vigilante group to arrest one Abdullahi Mohammed, known as "Aala," at Kargi Village in Ikara Local Government Area of Kano State.
The police commissioner said Aala confessed to planning several kidnapping operations in Kuzuntu Village and other areas in Kano. "He also admitted to taking part in the killing of two Yan Sa Kai members during an attack last year," Muhammad said. They recovered an AK-47 rifle and five live ammunition from him.
The command also made progress against vehicle theft by recovering a Toyota Sienna stolen from a Juma’at Mosque in Ungwan Rimi, Kaduna, among other arrests and item recoveries.
Muhammad urged residents to keep providing timely and credible information. He assured that the command would continue operations to flush out criminals and protect lives and property across Kaduna State.
