Police to pay for treatment of child rescued in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has said it will cover all medical costs for the only child who survived among four children rescued from a female native doctor’s home in Umuoduba Village, Ideani, Idemili South Local Government Area.

The new Commissioner of Police in Anambra, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, shared this information during a press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Awka on Monday. He also discussed a new policing approach focused on intelligence, technology, community partnership, and building public trust.

Recently, four children aged between six and 15 were found unconscious at the native doctor's place. Sadly, three of the children were already dead when they were discovered. The fourth child was rescued alive and taken to a hospital by community members for urgent medical attention.

This shocking event happened in the early hours of August 5, causing fear and sadness among the community members.

With help from community leaders, security personnel visited the site and quickly took the female native doctor away.

CP Ama expressed his sadness and concern about this tragic event. He announced that the police command will handle the medical expenses for the child who survived.

Ama said, “When I started my duty, I received detailed briefings on the security situation in the state. I want to first acknowledge the dedication and hard work of the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, other security agencies, and most importantly, the good people of Anambra State for their continued support and partnership in our efforts to keep the peace and safety.”

He added, “While I appreciate these efforts, I must express the deep sadness and concern of the command over the tragic incident involving the discovery of four unconscious children aged 6, 9, 12, and 15 years in Ideani Community.”

“Unfortunately, despite the hard work of medical staff to save their lives, three of the children were confirmed dead. The fourth child is currently receiving intensive care and is bravely fighting for survival.”

Before going into the details of the incident, he stated that the Anambra State Police Command will take care of the full medical expenses for the surviving child.

“We will also closely monitor the child’s treatment and recovery to ensure all necessary medical help is provided. Our priority is to see the child recover because every life is important.”

He assured the people of the state that an investigation into the incident will be conducted with a high level of professionalism.

He promised to review the state’s policing strategies and capabilities. He pledged to improve intelligence gathering, technology-driven policing, operational efficiency, and proactive crime prevention measures across the state.

“We will also boost community policing efforts, strengthen collaboration with other security agencies, local vigilante groups, and important stakeholders. We aim to build public confidence through effective partnership and engagement.”

“Our goal is clear: to make Anambra State safer, more secure, and peaceful for everyone living in or visiting,” he said.

He urged the media to maintain high standards of professionalism in reporting, ensuring that news is factual, balanced, and responsible while prioritizing public safety and national security.

He reassured all Ndi Anambra that the police will carry out their duties with integrity, fairness, professionalism, and respect for the law. He added that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property, preventing crime, and maintaining public order across the state.
