The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) started moving election materials to Registration Area Centres for the Ekiti governorship election early on Friday. This happened under heavy security presence.
At the INEC office in Ado Ekiti Local Government Area, buses were seen loading materials. They were heading to their assigned locations.
There are 2,445 polling units across the 177 wards in the 16 local government areas of Ekiti State.
INEC and the police confirmed that voting will start at 8:30 a.m. as per the guidelines.
Security personnel took their positions outside the INEC office. Others escorted the vehicles from the headquarters to their respective RACs.
At the Ekiti State INEC headquarters, security forces set up blockades on the road in front of the office. They are checking vehicles that pass by.
Several Armoured Personnel Carriers and armed vehicles were placed at the entrance of the headquarters for added security.
So far, there are no reports of unrest from political activities ahead of the election on Saturday.
Abayomi Shogunle, the Commissioner of Police overseeing the election, stated that the police have deployed many officers across the wards and local governments. They aim to ensure the election is secure.
He reassured voters that they have nothing to fear. All measures are in place to protect them and the ballots on Saturday.
