The Ogun State Police Command has revealed that the main suspect in the murder of former OGTV broadcaster Kitan Oyesiku and her guard Pelumi Adetayo claimed he planned the act to "teach her a lesson."
The state Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, shared this information on Thursday during a press briefing at the commandâs headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
PUNCH Metro reported earlier that police began investigating the deaths after someone raised concerns about unusual activities at Oyesikuâs home.
According to reports, police detectives found signs of forced entry and a disturbance when they arrived at the scene.
The guardâs body was discovered in his security post, while Oyesikuâs body was later found inside her apartment.
Police also mentioned that Oyesikuâs Lexus RX300, which was initially reported missing, was found during the investigation.
While updating the public on the case, Ojajuni explained that after recovering the vehicle, police discovered a note inside. This note became a key clue in solving the case.
He said that after a forensic examination of the note, they arrested the main suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, on Wednesday at a construction site in Ibara, Abeokuta.
He stated, "Further intelligence gathering and careful investigation led to the identification and arrest of the principal suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, a 22-year-old, on June 24, 2026, at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer."
Ojajuni added, "Following more operations by the detectives, we arrested Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, a 27-year-old security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, a 36-year-old bricklayer. This means we have captured all suspects linked to the crime."
The CP revealed that during questioning, Philip confessed he planned the attack due to issues he had with Oyesiku while he worked for her as a security guard. He claimed the murder was meant to teach her a lesson.
He continued, "During interrogation, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip admitted his role in the murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku. He also said he had brought in Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola and Sobu Obafunsho to help him carry out the crime."
"According to his statement, he organized the attack based on grievances with the deceased from when he was her security guard. He claimed that killing Madam Olakitan Oyesiku was to âteach her a lesson.â"
Ojajuni explained how the suspects allegedly executed the attack. He said their confession showed they overpowered the late Adetayo to gain entry into the house.
"The attack happened on Saturday, June 20, 2026, in the afternoon. They first overpowered the security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, who was 38 years old, and used him to access the residence. Once inside, they attacked Madam Olakitan Oyesiku and later killed the security guard."
"After the crime, the suspects fled with Oyesikuâs Lexus RX 330, which we later recovered through intelligence and tracking operations in the Onikolobo area of Ogun State."
Ojajuni detailed that the conspiracy involving Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, and Sobu Obafunsho led to the tragic deaths of both Oyesiku and her guard, Pelumi Adetayo.
He noted that evidence, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank, and a black pen, was found at various locations connected to the suspects.
âThe Ogun State Police Command wants to stress that while the suspects have made useful statements and we have gathered substantial evidence, all suspects are still entitled to due process under the law.
"The investigation continues to gather all available evidence and ensure that all suspects linked to this crime are prosecuted properly. The Command is committed to making sure justice is served and that everyone connected to this serious crime is held accountable," Ojajuni concluded.
