Suspended Zamfara Lawmakers Share Reasons for Meeting President Tinubu

The suspended lawmakers from Zamfara met with President Tinubu to discuss their illegal suspension and political challenges within the APC. They await further communication from the president.

Suspended Zamfara Lawmakers Share Reasons for Meeting President Tinubu

The eight suspended members of the Zamfara House of Assembly have shared why they met with President Bola Tinubu.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that these lawmakers were suspended in February 2024 by the State House of Assembly. They faced suspension for allegedly breaking house rules and the Nigerian Constitution.

NAN also reports that the suspended lawmakers recently announced they are leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The suspended lawmakers insist their suspension was not legal.

NAN adds that the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, took the lawmakers to see the president to discuss the political problems shaking the Zamfara APC.

In a phone interview with NAN on Monday, one of the suspended lawmakers, Aliyu Kagara, who was the Minority Leader before his suspension, said: “Yes, we visited President Bola Tinubu on his invitation.”

Mr Kagara, who represents Talata Mafara South, praised President Tinubu’s involvement, calling it fatherly.

“We talked a lot with Mr President about our illegal suspension from the Zamfara House of Assembly.

“We explained everything to him, and he promised to set up another meeting on the matter.

“We must be loyal to Mr President. You know, every good Nigerian, no matter their political party, must respect Mr President.

“We have not made any decisions yet; we have not taken any steps now; we are waiting for another call from Mr President as he promised,” Mr Kagara said.
