The Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area in Sokoto State, Isa Kalanjeni, has left the All Progressives Congress and resigned from his position as chairman.
This news came out in two letters released by Kalanjeni and shared with journalists in Sokoto on Tuesday.
The first letter, dated May 5, 2026, was sent to the APC Ward Chairman of Kalanjeni Ward in Tangaza Local Government Area. In this letter, Kalanjeni announced that he was resigning from the ruling party immediately.
He wrote, “I wish to formally inform you of my decision to resign from the APC with immediate effect.”
Kalanjeni explained why he made this decision. He said, “This decision is borne out of purely personal reasons. I appreciate the opportunity given to me to be part of the party.”
Resignation from Chairman Position
In a different letter dated July 7, 2026, Kalanjeni informed the Secretary to the Sokoto State Government and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs about his resignation as the Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area.
This letter was titled ‘Letter of Resignation as Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area,’ and it stated that his resignation takes effect immediately.
“Please accept this letter as formal notification that I am resigning from my position as Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area, effective immediately from today,” he wrote.
Kalanjeni shared that reaching this decision was not easy. He said, “This difficult decision has been reached after extensive consultations with my family, key political associates and community stakeholders.”
He also mentioned some challenges he faced. He said, “Due to recent unavoidable administrative challenges, I find that I am no longer able to execute the responsibilities of this office to the high standard expected of me.”
Kalanjeni expressed his gratitude to the people of the council. He said, “I am incredibly grateful to the electorate, the council’s legislative arm and the entire staff for the privilege and opportunity to serve our people. I wish the incoming leadership and administration continued success.”
As of now, there has been no official response from the Sokoto State Government or the APC in Sokoto regarding these resignations.
