A telecom technician, Ajani Taiwo, is now in the hospital after being attacked by three dogs while working in the Okhoro area of Benin City, Edo State.
The attack happened on Thursday when Mr Taiwo went to install MTN network equipment behind a police station.
Mr Taiwo lives on Adesagbon Street, off Okhoro Road, in the Egor Local Government Area. He was attacked right after the site’s power handler opened the gate.
At around 3 p.m., the technician called the person in charge of the site’s power supply to get access. But once the gate was opened, three dogs ran at him and attacked before their owner, Ughanlunen Sandra, could step in.
His shouting for help brought in neighbours, who rushed to help him escape from the dogs.
He was later taken to a nearby hospital, where he got emergency treatment for his injuries, including a wound to his head.
Eno Ikoedem, the police spokesperson in Edo, confirmed the incident. She said the dog owner was arrested after Mr Taiwo made a formal complaint.
"As the door was opened, about three dogs attacked him before the owner, Ughanlunen Sandra, arrived at the scene," said Ms Ikoedem, who is an assistant superintendent of police.
The police spokesperson noted that Mr Taiwo suffered a head injury and that they have started an investigation into how the attack happened.
She urged dog owners and breeders to keep a close eye on their animals to prevent attacks and ensure public safety.
