Ten Arrested for Violent Crimes in Osun

The Osun State Police Command has arrested ten suspects in two separate operations connected to violent crimes in Modakeke and an invasion of the Osun State Polytechnic in Iree.

Four suspects were picked up in Modakeke, located in Ife East Local Government Area. They face charges of conspiracy, attempted murder, assault causing harm, and illegal possession of firearms.

The suspects are Olufemi Olatunji, 39; Ajayi Idowu, 31; Akingbala Oluwakemi, 40; and Adekunle Basirat, 40. Police operatives arrested them around 2am on August 9, 2026, after receiving a petition directed to the Commissioner of Police.

DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Police Public Relations Officer, shared these details in a statement on Wednesday. Police searched the suspects' homes and found two firearms, a locally made cut-to-size gun and a pump-action gun.

The command reported that the cut-to-size gun was found in Basirat's shop while the pump-action gun was located at Oluwakemi's house. The police identified Basirat as the wife of Solomon Akinlabi, known as "Indomine," and Oluwakemi as the wife of Akingbala Akindele, also known as "Ostand."

"The suspects are currently in police custody and are helping the police with the ongoing investigation," the statement mentioned.

In a different operation, the Violent Crime Response Unit arrested six suspected members of an illegal group. This was after reports of an invasion at the Osun State Polytechnic in Iree. Armed hoodlums were involved, resulting in injuries to two students.

The six suspects are Ajoba Akorede, 27; Adam Oseni, 27; Ogunrinde Ayomide, 21; Ogunlana Muheez, 26; Ajose Noah, 25; and Adeniyi Damola, 25. During questioning, Akorede and Oseni admitted to being part of the Aye confraternity, but the police have not confirmed if they are students at the school.

The police stated that investigations into both cases are still ongoing. They also said that the suspects would face prosecution after the investigations are completed. Efforts continue to arrest other suspects linked to the Modakeke incident, according to the police.
