The Kogi State Police Command has reported the arrest of three suspects linked to the death of Mariam Usman. She was a teacher at Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School in Ugbamaka, located in Olamaboro Local Government Area.

A statement from the command’s spokesperson, ASP Oyiza Afusat, said, “The Kogi State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in the investigation of a culpable homicide case reported on June 25, 2026. This case involves Mariam Usman, a staff member of Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School in Ugbamaka.”

“After receiving the complaint, detectives from the Homicide Section at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lokoja sprang into action. They conducted an investigation that led to the arrest of three suspects in this case.”

The investigation found that on June 17, 2026, Abdullahi Isiaka attacked Mariam at her home. This was because of a disciplinary action she took against his 11-year-old son during school hours.

Later that same day, while Mariam was heading to the mosque for prayers, she was assaulted by Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo.

Further findings showed that on June 18, 2026, Ojonojima Mary, Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo's younger sister, went to Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School. There, she assaulted Mariam at her place of work.

After the attacks, Mariam first received treatment at Grace Clinic in Ugbamaka. She was then referred to Eleojo Clinic in Okpo for more medical care. Sadly, she died from her injuries on June 25, 2026.

The police spokesperson stated that the investigation showed strong evidence of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide against the suspects. They are Ojonojima Mary, Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo, and Abdullahi Isiaka.

“Now, the investigation is complete, and the suspects will be taken to court for prosecution,” she added.

The Commissioner of Police for Kogi State, CP Naziru Kankarofi, praised the hard work and commitment of the detectives in the Homicide Section. He said they did a great job in ensuring that justice is served.

He also assured the public that the police will keep working hard to bring those who commit violent crimes to justice. He urged residents to resolve issues through legal means and not take the law into their own hands.

The commissioner encouraged the public to continue to support the police by providing timely and credible information to help prevent crime and enforce the law effectively.
