The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra Sector Command, has reported that three people died and four others got injured in a truck accident on the Nnobi, Agulu, Awka Road.
Sector Commander Bridget Asekhauno shared this news in a statement on Saturday in Awka.
According to Asekhauno, the accident happened on Friday close to St. Jude Catholic Church in Adazi-Ani. It involved a Mercedes-Benz 608 commercial truck with the registration number XB270NNL.
She explained that early investigations showed the truck had a mechanical problem while moving. The truck caught fire, and the driver lost control before crashing into a roadside barrier and flipping over.
The crash trapped some occupants as the vehicle was on fire. “The crash involved seven male occupants. Three persons died, while four others sustained serious injuries,” she said.
Asekhauno noted that FRSC rescue teams received the emergency call and quickly got to the scene. They managed traffic, moved vehicles to the opposite lane to reduce congestion, and arranged for the burnt truck to be towed away.
The sector commander expressed her condolences to the families of those who died and wished the injured a quick recovery. She emphasized the FRSC's dedication to fast emergency response and effective road safety measures in the state.
Asekhauno advised drivers, especially those operating commercial vehicles, to ensure their vehicles are in good condition before traveling. She also warned against carrying flammable or dangerous materials in passenger areas or under unsafe conditions.
She stressed the need for regular vehicle checks to avoid crashes that can be prevented. Asekhauno reiterated the FRSC's commitment to keeping lives and properties safe on the roads and urged everyone in Anambra to prioritize road safety.
