The Anambra State Police have arrested three women for allegedly selling a four-year-old boy for N2 million. This incident is linked to child trafficking activities in the state.

On Sunday, the police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrests. The suspects are Florence Nnakuzie, 45; Hannah Ugah, 52; and Chinasa Daniel, 27. They were taken into custody by officers from the Awada Divisional Headquarters at a motor park in Onitsha.

Ikenga claimed the suspects are part of a child trafficking group. This group is known for trafficking children and selling them for money. The police carried out a raid on Saturday evening and arrested the women while other members of the group managed to escape. During this operation, some children were also rescued.

The statement from the police said, "The Anambra State Police Command, on the evening of July 11, recorded another breakthrough in its sustained fight against child trafficking with the arrest of three female suspects, Florence Nnakuzie, 45; Hannah Ugah, 52; and Chinasa Daniel, 27, at a motor park in Onitsha by police operatives attached to Awada Divisional Headquarters."

Ikenga shared that preliminary information shows Chinasa Daniel brought two children to Hannah Ugah. One was a two-week-old baby, and the other was the four-year-old boy. This happened on two different occasions between June and December 2025.

Chinasa reportedly revealed that the four-year-old child was given to Florence Nnakuzie, who allegedly sold him for N2 million. The two-week-old baby was also sold to another woman who is still on the run.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra, Ikioye Orutugu, called child trafficking a serious violation of human rights. He ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for careful investigation.

The Commissioner has directed officers to find and arrest all the members of the trafficking group. He also wants operations to begin to locate and rescue trafficked children and reunite them with their families.

The police thanked the public for their help. They appreciated the timely information that led to the arrests and asked residents to keep supporting them with useful tips.
