President Bola Tinubu has put forward four new national commissioners and two new resident electoral commissioners to fill gaps at the Independent National Electoral Commission. These vacancies came up because some tenures have ended.

The Senate will review all the nominees.

But the president has reappointed Bala Bila as the national commissioner for the North East.

The new national commissioners include Mustapha Aliu, who will take over from Abdullahi Zuru as the North West representative. Bashir Muhammed Umar will replace Muhammad Adamu as the North Central representative.

President Tinubu has also suggested Oluwatoyin Babalola, the resident electoral commissioner in Osun, as the new national commissioner for the South West. She will take the place of Cornelius Ajayi, whose time in office ends on 24 October.

The two new resident electoral commissioners are Samuel Akinleye, a retired permanent secretary representing Ekiti State, and Zahradden Sanusi from Jigawa, who will replace Saidu Babura.

President Tinubu has asked the Senate to quickly confirm the nominees, especially with the upcoming general elections in January.
