Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has praised President Bola Tinubu for showing commitment to rebuilding the South-east.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Soludo said Tinubu is working to heal the wounds of the civil war that happened from 1967 to 1970.

“Certainly, President Tinubu has a date with history, and even more so with the South-east.

“He continues to show his commitment to reconstructing the South-east, thereby finally healing the wounds of the civil war,” he said.

The governor explained that he praised Tinubu after receiving a message from the Presidency on Wednesday. The message said Tinubu had approved two federal roads in Anambra for design and procurement.

One of the roads is Otuocha, Anam, Abaji, which is about 108 km and connects Anambra to Kogi State. The second road is Oba, Nnewi, Uga, Ihube Road, which is about 150 km long. This road connects Anambra to Imo, Enugu, Abia, and Port Harcourt.

He said both roads will be dualized.

Soludo mentioned that he met with Tinubu on 1 July to discuss the roads. The day after, Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, contacted him to ask for details about the roads, which he sent on 3 July.

“On 15 July, I got a message from the Ministry of Works that the president has graciously approved both roads for ‘design and procurement,’” he said.

“What can I say? These two roads are critical changes for the South-east, South-south, and North-central.”

Soludo believes that Tinubu is changing politics in Nigeria with infrastructure projects in the South-east.

“There are several major infrastructure developments happening in the South-east right now.

“For me, this is why politics makes sense, working together and building partnerships to achieve results that improve people's lives,” he said.

Soludo is a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and won reelection in 2025.

He has supported Tinubu's reelection bid, who is in the All Progressives Congress (APC). He has campaigned for the president and often says that “the progressives are working together,” showing a good relationship between the APC and APGA.

The South-east has been pushing to leave Nigeria for years due to claims of marginalization.

In 1967, then-Military Governor of Eastern Nigeria, Odumegwu Ojukwu, declared the region's independence as the Biafra Republic. This was due to claims of marginalization and mass killings of Easterners in the north.

The then-Nigeria Military Government led by Yakubu Gowon opposed the declaration, leading to a bloody three-year civil war.

About 3 million people, mostly from Eastern Nigeria, died during that war.
