Tragedy in Gombe as Four People Die in Tricycle and Water Tanker Collision

Four people, including two children, lost their lives on Tuesday in a road accident involving a commercial tricycle and a water tanker. This happened at Kanani Academy junction, near the All Progressives Congress square in Gombe State.

The accident involved eight people. This included two adult males, two male children, and four female children, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander in Gombe State, Samson Kaura.

Kaura confirmed the incident. He said eyewitnesses reported that the tricycle, known locally as Keke Napep, crashed into the water tanker from behind.

"Yes, there was a crash as you mentioned. From the eyewitness account we have, it was a Keke Napep that crashed into a water tanker from behind," he said.

Kaura added that the FRSC did not carry out the rescue operation because they received the accident report late.

"Though we were not the ones who carried out the rescue because the report came to us late, my men were there and visited the Specialist Hospital where the victims were taken for treatment," he said.

According to the sector commander, four people died in the crash. Two others were hurt, while the last two occupants, both adult males, were not injured.

But Kaura's report on the injured victims had some confusion. He mentioned three injured people: one adult male, one male child, and one female child, despite stating that only two were injured.

The victims were taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital and the Specialist Hospital in Gombe for treatment.

The crash also involved schoolchildren from Government Day Secondary School, Ahmadu Gombe; Government Day Junior Secondary School, Jekadafari, under the Universal Basic Education programme; and Jekadafari Primary School.
