Troops from the Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued 13 people kidnapped during different operations in the Anka and Kaura Namoda Local Government Areas of Zamfara State.
The troops from Sector 2 also stopped planned activities by terrorists. This made the suspects run away and leave their captives behind.
On Wednesday, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, shared a statement about the operations. The first rescue happened in Bagega, Anka LGA. This came after they received credible intelligence about armed terrorists moving on motorcycles towards Tungan Kudaduku.
"Guided by real-time surveillance, the troops pursued and engaged the terrorists with overwhelming firepower, forcing them to abandon their mission and flee.
“A follow-up search of the area led to the discovery of a makeshift terrorist camp, where five kidnapped civilians were rescued unharmed," the statement read.
In another operation at Ungwan Rogo in Kaura Namoda LGA, Danja said the troops acted on intelligence about terrorist activities in that area.
"On contact, they engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight, forcing them to retreat in disarray and abandon their captives. Eight kidnapped victims were rescued, and two vehicles were recovered," the statement added.
The military confirmed that all 13 rescued victims were handed over to the right authorities for further care and support.
They also mentioned that the troops are still monitoring the area. This is to stop terrorists from operating freely while putting pressure on criminals in the North-West region.
"The troops continue to dominate the general area, denying terrorists freedom of action and sustaining pressure on criminal elements operating across the theatre," the statement said.
