One person has died in a crash involving a Mack truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near the Kara Bridge, heading out of Lagos.
PUNCH Metro learned from Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, that the accident happened around 12:05 pm on Sunday.
Akinbiyi said that rescue teams from TRACE, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the police, and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority were sent to the scene.
The TRACE spokesperson mentioned that the agencies got there by 12:20 pm and started managing traffic and rescue operations.
He noted that an eyewitness reported that the Mack truck, with license plate GDD 215 XD, had a brake failure before it hit a pedestrian and killed them.
“The presumed dead had been deposited at a morgue by FRSC,” Akinbiyi said.
He added that the truck was moved from the container and taken to the Adigboluja Police Station for further investigation.
According to him, they were waiting for another truck and crane to remove the container from the road and the side of the road.
He mentioned that the accident caused traffic delays on the expressway, while traffic operatives worked hard to manage the situation.
Akinbiyi ended by expressing condolences to the family of the deceased.
